Public Health Somerset have provided funding to deliver free courses for frontline workers within Somerset typically from the following areas:

  • Statutory and voluntary sector workers in health, welfare or social justice
  • Adult education, leisure and community safety staff and volunteers
  • Emergency service workers
  • General Practice staff

We currently have 3 different courses available. Please see the below information of each course.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) 2 Day

ASIST is a face-to-face interactive workshop in suicide intervention. This course teaches learners to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) 2 Day

This face-to-face course is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond.

Mental Health Awareness (MHA) Half Day

This online course is an introductory session designed to raise awareness of mental health. Learners will gain a basic knowledge of some common mental health issues and how to challenge stigma.
