Youth Mental Health First Aid


2 day course (9.30 – 15.30). The course is split into four sections: What is Mental Health?, Suicide and Psychosis,
Anxiety and Depression and Self-harm and Eating Disorders, and is designed by Mental Health First Aid England.


This internationally recognised course is designed specifically for those people who teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 8 – 18. You will learn to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress. Alongside this, you will learn how to provide information, tools and techniques to build an environment which promotes young people’s mental and emotional wellbeing.


Our Youth MHFA two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Youth Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that may affect their emotional wellbeing 
  • Practical skills to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health issues
  • Confidence to support a young person in distress and protect them if they might be at risk of harm
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – and engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability and enable them to thrive

The cost of Youth MHFA is £300* per delegate. Minimum of 8, maximum of 16 delegates.

One day course

Alternatively, we can offer a one day course to groups of eight to sixteen individuals. This would qualify them as Mental Health Champions. The cost of this course is £200* per delegate.


Mindfulness in Schools


This is an eight week course which can be delivered to young people or to staff members who would benefit from this due to their contact and work with young people. Mindfulness is proven to increase focus, memory and reduce emotional reactivity. 


The programme aims to introduce mindfulness primarily as a way to reduce stress, anxiety and presenteeism. This occurs through a variety of techniques, and is delivered by our trainer who has twenty five years of experience in the teaching profession. 


  • Greater awareness and understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing 
  • Greater confidence and self-esteem due to lower anxiety levels and more effective coping mechanisms
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing
  • Wider benefits of mindfulness 

This can also be offered as a one off session, and introductory workshops or taster sessions are available.


Emotion coaching and Tuning into Teens


These courses run over a number of sessions, which can be delivered once a week or more or less frequently. Stand alone sessions are possible too. 


Emotion training can be delivered to staff, young people or parents – providing all of those supporting children with a common approach and language. The course improves communication with young people as well as increasing resilience, helping improve the relationships that the participant has. 

Tuning into Teens focuses on the difficulties of adolescence and is suitable for parents or teachers who want to understand and support their young people. 


  • Skills in emotion coaching, which is to recognise, understand and respond to emotions in an accepting, supportive way. This approach helps the young person to understand and manage their emotions.
  • Better relationships with young people
  • Greater understanding of mental wellbeing

Emotion coaching can also be offered as a one off session, and introductory workshops or taster sessions are available.
