Invitation to make a square in memory of your loved one

Somerset Suicide Bereavement Support Service are pleased to be leading the Speak Their Name Memorial Quilt Project for people in Somerset who are bereaved by suicide.

The Speak Their Name Movement originated in Greater Manchester in 2020, followed by Yorkshire and the Northeast and more recently Hampshire and the Isle of Wright.   There are now eight quilts across the country as well as an online version, which can be viewed at www.speaktheirname.co.uk.

Anyone bereaved or affected by suicide is invited to take part, it does not need to have been a close family member, it may have been a friend or colleague who you have lost to suicide.  Each participant will create a memorial square for their person or a message of hope.  Each square will be made into a panel which will be displayed across the county.

We want this to be an ongoing and powerful artwork to provoke conversations, provide support and raise awareness about suicide loss and the profound effect it has on so many.

We believe that coming together as a community creatively is core to wellbeing when navigating such a tragic loss.

Please do join us to help us create this lasting memorial to our loved ones.  No experience is required, support and some resources are available as well as the opportunity to attend in person workshops .

For more information, please contact us at speaktheirname@mindinsomerset.org.uk.   We will then arrange to send you an information pack to get you started.
