PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept referrals for this service from the public.
The SUCH project is a therapeutic service provided for Mental Health Hospitals. We work alongside the medical model to aid people’s recovery from emotional and mental distress through touch therapy.
Founded by Maggi Rowan in 2002 our service is there to provide access to complementary and holistic treatments for anyone suffering from mental distress, be they service users, carers, volunteers or anyone working in the Mental Health system.
We don’t currently provide this service outside of Somerset Mental Health Hospitals.
We run a wide range of treatments to increase wellbeing
Indian Head Massage
This deep style massage is derived from the Indian Ayurvedic tradition, and focuses on the head, shoulders and neck.
It can relieve built-up tension that can often result in headaches, migraines, neck and back pain. It can also relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression, provide relief from stress, promote relaxation, improve concentration levels, renew energy levels and increase feelings of peace, calm and well-being. This therapy is performed without oils with the client sitting and fully clothed, so it is ideally suited to the workplace, hospital wards or situations where it may not be appropriate to give a fuller massage.
Back and Shoulder Massage
This treatment is also carried out through clothing and is our most popular massage.
The importance of the neck and shoulder region lies in the fact that the neck is a flexible structure supporting the weight of the head as well as protecting the connecting nervous system to the brain. This massage helps to relieve discomfort and stress caused by poor posture or tension by helping to restore mobility and relax knotted muscles.
Reflexology is believed to affect our physical body by reducing muscular tension, relieving fatigue, increasing energy, promoting refreshing sleep and strengthening natural self-healing mechanisms.
It is also believed to affect our emotional and mental health by promoting calmness and a sense of well-being, relaxing the body and mind, relieving stress and soothing emotional distress. Almost all parts of the body can be helped through massaging the feet.
This treatment breaks down crystalline deposits and removes blockages, restoring balance and harmony as well as increasing the energy flow of the body. It also gives the feet a good physical work-out which makes them feel supple and can prevent them aching.
Our relaxing foot massage has been developed using Swedish Massage and Thai techniques and is unique to each Therapist.
After a cool wet-wipe cleanse, foot lotion is applied to the foot and leg up to the knee. Gentle strokes stimulate the blood circulation to the area which in turn warms and relaxes the muscles. A combination of kneading, finger walking, pressure points and ankle rotation helps to give the feet a ‘work out’ as well as promote calm and well being.
Enjoyed by men and women, our lovely lotions include Rose and Geranium, Mint and Lavender and Neroli and Sandalwood.
Massaging gently into the fore arm muscles and joints of the wrist and hand, soothes and relaxes and the essential oils work their magic helping to relieve anxiety and emotional disturbances. Combined with our music which by- passes the conscious and calms the ‘self’ at a deeper level, this is a popular massage.
