24th April 2020
As we get to the end of another week in ‘lockdown’, we hope that you and your colleagues are doing OK and looking after yourselves as well as each other.
In this week’s edition of the newsletter we are looking at our Corporate Training offer to support employees, as well as some ways that you can help to fundraise for us – both now and after lockdown.
Any feedback on this newsletter? Are you or your organisation fundraising for us?
We would love to hear from you. [email protected]
Employee Assistance Programmes – Yeovil CAB take up the offer
A few weeks ago we told you about our new bespoke Employee Assistance Programmes that we are developing with organisations across Somerset. One of the first organisations to work with us has been Yeovil Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Their Chief Executive, Angela Carr told us:-
“Like many other charities, the impact of the Covid -19 health emergency has been significant; increased numbers of distressed and concerned clients are seeking assistance from us, whilst at the same time, the staff and volunteers are working in isolation from one another at home. The Board of Trustees and I were keen to ensure that we offered our team access to a confidential, personal, support session and we approached Mind to explore the options. Fortunately we have been able to make this arrangement and any one of our team have up to 3 confidential sessions available to them. We are very thankful to Mind in Somerset for making this service available to us and hope to continue the arrangement beyond the Covid-19 period”
Schemes are designed to work with the needs of your organisation depending on the size and nature of your operation.

Full Corporate Training Programme now available online!
Just like lots of other organisations, here at Mind in Somerset, we have had to adapt the way that we provide our services in the current situation. Jess, our Training Co-ordnator, has been working hard over the last few weeks to adapt our Corporate Training programme so that it can be done virtually.
Courses include (and are not limited to) First Aid for Mental Health, Managing Mental Health at Work (for Managers and HR Professionals) as well as a range of bespoke workshops.
Our raising awareness ‘Lunch and Learn ‘ sessions are often a good first introductory step iff you are not sure what to do first.
Get in touch with Jess via the button below who can talk you through the options available and find out what is best for your organisation.

Take part in the 2.6 challenge -What will YOU do!!?
This Sunday (26th April) would have been the 40th London Marathon – one of the biggest fundraising events (if not THE biggest) of the year – raising upwards of £60M for charity
As the event is not happening this year, we are putting the call out for businesses and employees to get involved in the 2.6 challenge instead – and raise money for Mind in Somerset.
It’s really easy to take part. All you need to do is take part in an activity around the numbers 2.6, 26 or 260 and get people to sponsor you.
You could walk, run or cycle 2.6 miles, juggle for 2.6 minutes, hold an online workouts with 26 friends, read 26 books in 26 days – or bake (and eat!?) 26 cakes. The ideas and options are endless!
The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26 April, but you can do your activity whenever is most convenient for you.
Tell us what you are doing, take photos and share on social media. We will do our best to mention you (and your organisation) in future newsletters and on our socials. Good luck!

Walk the Inca Trail for us – sort of!!
Have you ever wanted to run across America, kayak down the Thames, climb Everest? Well now you can – sort of – within the confines of lockdown retrictions!!
My Virtual Mission is a website / app which allows you to plot where you want to travel from / to and allows you to plot your virtual route via a phone app.
You can join in with one of the challenges already online and join a community of hundreds of others doing the same (walking the Inca Trail or the Grand Canyon to name but two) or you can set up your own challenge alongside other employees.
It’s a great way to keep teams focussed and motivated during lockdown – all you need to do is make sure you raise money for Mind in Somerset whilst doing so!!
Please let us know of any challenges that you are taking on and we will spread the word!!
